FAQ - Taylor's Business Foundation

1. How many intakes are there? When can I apply?
There are three intakes per year in January, March and July. You can apply at any time before the commencement date of the programme. Applications will be accepted until the commencement date of the programme. Late applications will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis with the latest cut-off date being two weeks after the commencement date.

2. What are the entry requirements?
5 credits in the SPM, ‘O' levels or equivalent - including a credit in English and Mathematics.

3. Is Taylor's Diploma in Business recognised?
Yes. Taylor's University College has a license from the Ministry of Education to conduct this programme.

4. Where can I continue my degree after completing my Foundation in Business?
Students can continue with our partner universities, University of South Australia (UniSA) or University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE). Students can also apply to any other university (subject to meeting the respective universities' entry requirements).

5. If I am in another Foundation course and would like to transfer over to Taylor's Business Foundation, can I get any exemptions?
Students seeking exemption will have to submit the syllabus for subjects they are applying exemptions for. This is for us to determine the similarity of the contents between what they have done and what we offer.

6. I have completed my Pre-U but did not do well and unable to enter a degree programme, do I need to repeat the entire TBF again?
This has to be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the student's Pre-U results, it may not be necessary to repeat the full TBF but only do a 4 month bridging programme.

7. There are so many pre-university programmes around. Can you tell me the difference between TBF and South Australian Matriculation (SAM), TBF and Cambridge A-Levels (CAL) and TBF and International Canadian Pre-University (ICPU)?
TBF is fully focussed on Business subjects, compared to the other Pre-U programmes. TBF students will be exposed to all business related subjects, which will give them a firm foundation in the business area before proceeding to degree level.

8. Where else can I go after the completion of my TBF?
Students can apply to a wide variety of universities; be it local or abroad. Students should seek advice from a counsellor for the full list of universities they are able to transfer to.

9. Can TBF be used to obtain a transfer of credits for ADP?
Yes. Students need to get advice from ADP as it will be on a case-by-case basis.

10. What's the focused on in TBF?
The focus of TBF is to provide students with a firm grounding in the area of business studies, while at the same time giving students the necessary skills to make them competitive in the employment market. This focus carries on at degree level. Evidence of this can be seen in the many TBS graduates who are now attached to reputable and highly sought after multi-national companies.

11. How is the schedule for TBF like? How many days in a week do I have classes?
TBF follows university style schedules. There is generally about 4 - 6 hours per day, 5 days a week.

12. My friend enrolled into the January intake, and I'll be joining the March intake. Does this mean that the March intake is an express course because I will graduate around the same time with my friend?
The January and March intakes are exactly the same. January and March intakes do not complete at the same time. The March intake ends later than the January intake.


FAQ - Diploma in Business

1. How many intakes are there? When can I apply?
There are two intakes per year (April and August). You can apply at any time before the commencement date of the programme. Applications will be accepted until the commencement date of the programme. Late applications will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis with the latest cut-off date being two weeks after the commencement date.

2. What are the entry requirements?
The entry requirements are 3 credits in SPM, ‘O' levels or equivalent - with a Pass in English and Mathematics.

3. Is Taylor's Diploma in Business recognised?
Yes. The DIB programme has obtained full accreditation from Malaysian Qualifications Agency.

4. Where can I continue my degree after completing my Diploma in Business?
Students can continue with our partner universities, University of South Australia (UniSA) or University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE). Students can also apply to any other university (subject to meeting the respective universities' entry requirement).

5. If I am in another Diploma course and would like to transfer over to Taylor's Diploma in Business, can I get any exemptions?
Students seeking exemptions will have to submit the syllabus for subjects they are applying exemptions for. This is for us to determine the similarity of the contents between what they have done and what we offer.

6. I am unsure of which course to join, the Diploma in Business (DIB) or Taylor's Business Foundation (TBF). Which one is suited for me?
This depends on your SPM results (3 credits to qualify for DIB and 5 credits to qualify for TBF) and also the student's intention to further their studies at tertiary level. This question is best directed to a counsellor who will be able to assist in a more detailed manner.

7. I am holding a UEC/Pre-University certificate, can I get any exemptions if I join the Diploma in Business programme?
This is handled on a case-by-case basis.

8. Can I transfer to the American Degree Transfer Program (ADP) after completing my Diploma in Business?
Yes. However, what exemptions are to be given can only be determined by ADP.

9. What is the schedule for Diploma in Business like? How many days in a week do I have classes?
The Diploma In Business follows university style schedules. There is generally about 4 - 6 hours per day, 5 days a week.


FAQ - University of South Australia (UniSA)

1. How many intakes are there? When can I apply?
There are 2 intakes per year in February and July. You can apply at any time before the commencement date of the programme. Applications will be accepted until the commencement date of the programme. Late applications will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis with the latest cut-off date being two weeks after the commencement date. Applications received two weeks after the commencement date will not be accepted.

2. What is the entry requirement?
•   Foundation in Business (Taylor's Business Foundation): Pass
•   STPM: minimum 3 Principals, B-,C+,C+ (CPGA 2.44)
•   A Levels: minimum C,D,D or 14 Points (A=10, B=8,C=6,D=4,E=2)
•   South Australian Certificate of Education (SAM): minimum TER 66 (5 subjects)
•   Ontario Secondary School Diploma (ICPU): Minimum 65% (6 subjects)
•   Unified Examination Certificate (UEC): maximum 28 Points (5 subjects - excluding Chinese & Bahasa Melayu)
•   International Baccalaureate: minimum 25 (6subjects)

3. Are the degree programmes by UniSA recognised by LAN?
Yes.

4. Is the Bachelor of Commerce degree recognised by CPAA? What about other professional bodies like ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, etc?
Yes, it is recognised CPAA as well as ACCA. For other professional bodies, exemptions are given on an application basis.

5. I am currently doing my Diploma in Business from another college. Can I get any exemptions into UniSA's degree? What do I need to submit to apply for a credit transfer?
Yes, we do grant exemptions provided the subjects done are equivalent to what we offer. Students seeking exemption will have to submit full transcript of results, the course syllabus, as well as a letter of completion from the college.

6. I heard about the transfer options to RMIT, UTS, UQ and UWA via the 1+2 route. Are there other universities I can transfer to besides these? Also, to transfer to these 4 universities, can I opt for 2+1 or 1.5 + 1.5 instead?
Yes. You can transfer to other universities, however, the exemptions will be granted subject to the universities' requirements.

For UQ, you have the option of 1.5 + 1.5 (depending on the major you would like to enrol for - kindly made appointment with the Programme Director for further advice).

7. I found that I have to take 10 subjects for Accounting if I'm doing Bachelor of Commerce. I am not able to do a double major in accounting and finance because of this. Can I take 8 subjects instead of 10?
You can do double major in Accounting and Finance. You can follow the study plan as advised by the Programme Office. If you wish to satisfy the requirement for professional accounting pathway, you must take the subjects of Taxation Law 1 and Auditing Theory and Practice.

8. Can you tell me what are the advantages by enrolling myself in UniSA's programme?
The advantages are:
1   You will be enrolled as a UniSA student and will be given a UniSA student ID.
2   You are allowed to access to the university's online facilities - Library, Learning Connections, etc.
3   You are allowed to access to the UniSA's online discussion forum
4   You have access to UniSAnet - study materials. Guides, course information, sample exam questions will be provided.
5   You will have access to UniSA facilities if you happen to be in Adelaide for a visit.
6   Professors from UniSA come to lecture at Taylor's University College (TUC), bringing with them vast international experience and exposure.

9. Can you tell me more about Adelaide?
•   Adelaide is the 5th most liveable city in the world
•   South Australia designated by the Department of Immigration as bonus point region for students (additional 2 points if completed 2 years in Adelaide)
•   One of the most affordable capital cities in the world, 18% lower than Sydney and 15% lower than Melbourne
•   Low living cost, about AUD$10,000 per year
•   Conducive learning environment

10. Why are there only 7 subjects for the marketing major? Does that mean that I do less subjects?
The 7 subjects are the core subjects for marketing majors but it does not mean that you will do less subjects. In total, you have to take 24 subjects to complete the Bachelor Degree.

11. If I enrol into the 2+1 programme, but wish to go over to Adelaide earlier (say 1 semester earlier), can I do so? What must I do?
Yes, you may (Please refer to the next question).

12. Who will brief me about the transfer to Adelaide? What must I need to prepare? How will the studies differ when I'm over at Adelaide?
UniSA staff will provide a pre-departure briefing with you prior to your transfer to Adelaide. You will need to inform the Programme Office on your choice of transferring before the deadline (one semester before). There is no difference between studying here or over at Adelaide. The only difference is, you will have more options to select your elective subjects over at Adelaide.

13. What are the study hours like? How many days in a week do I have classes?
Average study-hour is 20 hours per week. Classes are conducted from Monday to Friday (5 days a week).


FAQ - University of the West of England (UWE)

1. How many intakes are there? When can I apply?
There are 2 intakes per year (January and September). You can apply at any time before the commencement date of the programme. Applications will be accepted until the commencement date of the programme. Late applications will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis with the latest cut-off date being two weeks after the commencement date.

2. What are the entry requirements?
•   Foundation in Business (Taylor's Business Foundation): Pass

Yes.

4. Is the BA(Hons) Accounting and Finance (BAAF) degree recognised by ACCA? What about other professional bodies like CPAA, CIMA, ICAEW, etc?
Yes, it is recognised ACCA. ACCA awards a maximum of 9 papers exemption for graduates who have completed UWE's BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance programme. For other professional bodies, exemptions are given on an application basis.

5. I am currently doing my Diploma in Business from another college. Can I get any exemptions into UWE's degree? What do I need to submit to apply for a credit transfer?
UWE gives exemption by level. We do grant exemptions provided the subjects done are equivalent to what we offer. Students seeking exemption will have to submit full transcript of results, the course syllabus, as well as a letter of completion from the college.

6. Can you tell me what other majors are available besides the Bachelor of Arts (Accounting and Finance) and the Bachelor of Arts (Business Administration)? Can I study Marketing, Finance, International Business etc?
In Taylor's Business School, there are only 2 - Bachelor of Arts (Accounting and Finance) and the Bachelor of Arts (Business Administration). For students who study at UWE in the second year there is a possibility to transfer to one of the following awards: BA (Hons) Business Studies, BA (Hons) Business Studies with Accounting and Finance, BA (Hons) Business Studies with Human Resource Management, BA (Hons) Busines Studies with Marketing, BA (Hons) Business Studies with Operations and Supply Chain Management, BA (Hons) Business Studies with Tourism.

7. Can you tell me about the employability of your graduates? Where are they attached to now?
We have 25% 1st class Honours students in BAAF for the first batch of graduates. Our graduates are attached to various companies such as: KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Securities Commission, Accenture, HSBC, Citibank, Campbell Soup, Shell, L'Oreal, ABN-AMRO Bank Berhad, Guinness Anchor, UOB, GE, DHL and many more.

8. I heard that UK programmes are very rigid and theoretical-based, is this true?
No. The education in UK programme encompasses both continuous assessment as well as a final programme assessment. The programme is not tremendously rigid, but it is very knowledge-grounded.

9. If I enrol into the 2+1 programme, but wish to go over to UWE in Bristol earlier (say 1 semester earlier), can I do so? What must I do?
Yes , you may. Students are free to transfer at any year in the programme. The Programme Office with assist students with the transfer programme.

10. Who will brief me about the transfer to UWE in Bristol? What must I need to prepare? How will the studies differ when I'm over at Bristol?
UWE representative based in Malaysia will brief students with information to prepare them for their transition to Bristol. Students will expect more independence during their studies in Bristol.

11. What are the study hours like? How many days in a week do I have classes?
Average study-hour is 24 hours per week. Classes are conducted from Monday to Friday (5 days a week).


FAQ - Dual Degree

1. What is a dual degree award?
A dual degree award is a jointly developed programme leading to dual degrees from two universities. In this case, they are from Taylor’s University College (TUC) and University of the West of England (UWE).

2. Why should I take this dual degree programme?
The dual degree would give students recognition from both universities that will add value to the degree. It also gives students the flexibility and mobility to transfer and continue the programme in UWE at any time with the same dual degree upon completion.
3. How can we get two certificates with a dual degree?
If you study in TUC, you will get a degree and an academic transcript from TUC and UWE without having to pursue your studies at UWE. Students also have the flexibility of transferring to UWE and graduating with the dual degree.

4. How if I transfer to UWE in the final year? Can I still get 2 degrees?
Yes, although you transfer to UWE in the final year; you would still get two degrees - one from TUC and another one from UWE upon graduation.

5. Will I get the same degree from TUC and UWE?
No, the degree might be titled differently but it’s in the same field of expertise.

6. Can I go to other universities with the same arrangement?
This is a special arrangement between TUC and UWE only. Students can articulate to other Universities (UK & Australia) after Year 1 or Year 2; however, they won’t get a Taylor’s or a UWE degree.

7. How flexible is this arrangement? Can I transfer to UWE whenever I want?
This dual degree arrangement is very flexible. Hence, students have an option to transfer to UWE on a 1+2 or 2+1. Arrangements have been made to match subjects that you take in TUC with the UWE syllabus.

8. Is this dual degree recognised by both countries?
Yes. It is recognised by The Ministry of Education in both countries and recognised internationally.

9. Is the syllabus and examination exactly the same?
Both universities have matched the learning outcomes and syllabus, but in terms of applications and study cases, they suit to the needs of each country.

10. How is the dual degree different from the existing UWE degree?
The current UWE degree is not a dual degree. The students will get only one degree from UWE upon completion of study either in TUC or UWE.
