Get Ready for THE RACE!

THE RACE Competition 2009, a fully self-funded event organised by a group of students from Taylor's College, School of Hospitality and Tourism (TCHT), will be held from October 2 - 3, 2009.

Calling themselves "TheRaceCrew Inc.", the final year students of the Bachelor in Hospitality & Tourism Management (Hons), are undertaking this major project as part of their MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) Management course. It is an ideal platform for them to put into practice all aspects of managing and executing a big event.

Inspired by the concept of The Amazing Race Asia, THE RACE Competition 2009 is targeted at college and high schools students in the Klang Valley. An estimated 140 teams of two will battle it out in a two-day elimination round challenge on September 26 - 27, of which the 15 top teams will proceed on to THE RACE finale in October.

The exciting finale will challenge participants to travel around Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya with minimal allowance and by means of public transport only to complete a series of obstacles at the checkpoints. These checkpoints and activities will only be revealed when the competition is officially flagged off. But a few of the activities will incorporate the elements of food and beverage and Malaysian culture in order to promote the hospitality and tourism field. After completing a task successfully, the contestants will receive clue cards hinting towards their next destination.

"We're very excited to organise an event of such a scale for teenagers and young adults. We hope that this competition will create cohesiveness and new friendships among youth from all walks of life, while at the same time generating an interest in hospitality and tourism studies," said THE RACE Competition 2009 Event Manager Chia Li Sing.

To join THE RACE Competition 2009, participants have to pay a fee of RM50 each. The top three winners at the end will receive a total of RM3,800 cash, RM4,000 worth of products and other attractive goodies. To register for THE RACE Competition 2009, please contact Ms Justine Nadan at (012) 541-3500 or Ms Liew Ming Guan at (012) 358-9648. Further general information can be obtained from "The Race Taylors" at www.facebook.com. THE RACE finale will be flagged off on Friday morning, October 2, 2009, from Taylor's School of Hospitality and Tourism and end with a prize giving ceremony at the Lagoon Wave Bash on Saturday evening, October 3, 2009 at the Sunway Lagoon Wave Pool. The public can join in the festivities by purchasing supporter kits.

THE RACE is supported by Taylor's School of Hospitality and Tourism. Its main sportswear sponsor is Admiral England, a British sports brand which made its mark on major football clubs and cricket teams with its innovative array of sportswear. The competition's official media partner is The Star R.AGE. All participants and supporters will enter Sunway Lagoon Wet and Dry parks for all games, courtesy of official partner Sunway Lagoon Theme Park.

Other sponsors of this event include AJ Hackett, Bar Celona, Quattro Kuala Lumpur, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel Kuala Lumpur, O'wen Hotel, Besta, Broadwalk Modeling Academy, The Body Shop, Rexona, Freeman, Southern Lion (Fresh n White and Shokubutsu), Rotho-Mentholatum, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Pasta de Gohan, Uncle Biscuit, Catholic High School, D'Signet International, Jadi Batek Gallery, TT Sports Park, Pyramid Mega Lanes, Star Archery, and Unipress Printing.
