Many students will never know the answer until they actually go to college. No, there is no Harry Potter who will help you fend off Voldermort, you will have to face him yourself. But, the people from Taylor's University College (bless their kind souls) have devised an ingenious solution that will help you understand and actually watch what goes on in the life of a college student.
College Life in One Day (CLIOD) is a programme to feed your curious minds with information and knowledge about what goes on in the daily life of a college student. Don't worry, you don't have to read lengthy manuals and boring guides, instead, you can just watch the videos and in an instant, the darkness will be lifted and you will know what really lies behind the walls of a college. Aren't you a lucky bunch?
So, how does this work exactly? Simple... Three Taylor's students have generously volunteered their services and you will get to watch how they survive a day in college. The video starts from the time they wake up and it will take you in their classes, group discussions, gossip sessions…well, basically everything a college student does in a day! All you have to do is to check out the videos which will be uploaded via youtube, staronline.tv, staronline channel and the Taylor's website at www.taylors.edu.my. We're not kidding, it is really that simple.
Why do we want you to watch these videos? Firstly, if you're going into college or university, you need to know what to expect. We do not want you to be shocked at the work load or the different culture that a college adopts. The other thing is that, we want to show you just how different education at Taylor's is. If you're imagining a classroom filled with students and their heads buried in a stack of books, then you are certainly wrong. The approach used at Taylor's is unique and it will not only teach you a subject, it will help you to 'experience' that subject.
How do you 'experience' a subject you ask? Well, let's look at the area of business as an example. An ordinary business student will learn business accountancy, finance and economics theories, will then prepare for examinations and within three to four years, they will graduate with a business degree. Sounds fairly simple, but here's what a business student at Taylor's does. They too learn theories, facts and calculation but it doesn't stop there. A business student needs to participate in various activities like the Young Entrepreneur's Day whereby they are given the opportunity to devise, prepare and execute a business plan to set up a stall and sell either food items or products and the profits made will be given to a charitable organisation. When a business student from Taylor's goes out to the real world, they will not just know all the business theories, they will also know how to apply it. Now, isn't that what you would want to do?
In the movie 'School of Rock', Jack Black sums up the importance of educational experience in simple terms, "Oh you know I was on an honour roll, got good grades but got no soul'. Indeed, experience is important and it is the best teacher and knowing this, Taylor's strives to give you an educational experience you will never forget. We don't believe it when people say they are not talented, because we groom you to acquire talents, skills and ideas. We have seen ordinary students go out there and become extraordinary talents, all because they are given proper guidance and nurturing. Well, we know that talk is cheap and therefore, we have the three "College Life In One Day" videos to serve as a testament to our approach and to exemplify how talented and creative the students at Taylor's are. After all, seeing is believing right?
We won't bore you any further, but we urge you to watch these videos and learn about college life. You're free to send in your thoughts and opinions on the videos and…well, you be the judge! As mentioned earlier, the walls of a college can be unwelcoming, but if you know what to expect, then you will certainly shine. Here's a little secret before we go, watch the videos and look out for this column for a chance to win RM10,000 in scholarships from none other than Taylor's University College! This is an opportunity you don't want to miss. |
