As the effects of the financial crisis continue to unfold, the world faces serious challenges to the functioning of both capital markets and the global economy. The crisis is rooted in global imbalances such as long regimes of low interest rates, rapidly rising asset prices, massive leverage, in addition to trade and savings imbalances. The financial crisis indicates the need for a proactive approach in policy making which would make financial markets more efficient to withstand future crises. It is timely for finance specialists from all over the world to discuss the issues in order to actively participate in shaping the post-crisis environment in a systematic manner that integrates all stakeholders of a global society. This conference is a platform for both academics and industrialists to discuss the relevant issues, exchange ideas and promote better understanding of finance-related topics pertinent to the conference theme. Hence, this conference will focus on the need to re-engineer the current financial system in order to face the challenges of an innovation economy*. |
* Innovation economy is largely driven by the intersection of technological innovation,
globalization, and deregulation. This new economy reformulates the traditional
economic growth model so that knowledge, technology, entrepreneurship and innovation
is positioned at the center, rather than seen as forces that operate independently. Thus,
it is a continuous creation of new ideas & their application as value-adding marketable
goods and services. |
